We were delighted to be bringing our yurt cinema back to Doune the Rabbit Hole where the yurt had it’s world premiere last year. It is a place we know and love and we hope our film selection for this year reflects this.

We hope to engage, challenge and entertain you and our program this year is again packed with over 50 amazing films from around the world. Everything from silent film to music videos, political documentary to experimental forms.

Friday 9pm – Steve Davis presents Primer  

6 times World Snooker Champion and  DJ, Steve Davis. presents his selection for Doune the Rabbit Hole – Primer. The debut feature from filmmaker Shane Carruth Primer is a psychological sci-fi thriller about a group of four tech entrepreneurs. Toiling away in a garage, the quartet have successfully created error-checking systems for their clients. But their recent work seems to have created an unexpected and seemingly impossible side-effect…

Saturday 5.30pm – They Will Have to Kill Us First |100 mins |Johanna Schwartz |UK | 2015 (followed by Q&A with Songhoy Blues)  

When Islamist militants took control of northern Mali in 2012, all forms of music were outlawed under a religious ban. Mali’s musicians faced torture and were forced into hiding or exile. The film follows Malian musicians who fought back, using music to protest against the ongoing violence. The film draws the audience into the human side of Mali’s conflict and examines extremist attacks on culture, art and freedom.

The screening of the film will be followed by a Q&A session with the Doune the Rabbit Hole headliners Songhoy Blues.

Saturday 12pm  Moon Man | 96 mins |Stephan Schesch| 2013 | France  

The man on the moon is bored. One day, he hitches a ride to Earth on the tails of a passing comet — an “attack from outer space”that sets the alarm bells ringing in the President’s headquarters — and starts to explore the fantastical creatures and sights of a new planet. But all is not well — the Moon Man’s absence from his post means that all the world’s children are unable to sleep. Before the President can capture him, they must join forces to return him to his rightful place in the sky.

Sunday 2pm – National Library of Scotland Moving Image Archive presents Fun Films Fae Scotland (U) Join us for a unique sneak peak at films from the archive for all the family and discover the quirky side of your film heritage including a selection of from the local area.

Sunday 7pm –  Monterey Pop Festival | D A Pennebaker | 1969 |USA (PG)

On a beautiful June weekend in 1967, at the beginning of the Summer of Love, the first Monterey International Pop Festival roared forward, capturing a decade’s spirit and ushering in a new era of rock and roll. Monterey featured career-making performances by Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Otis Redding, but they were just a few among a wildly diverse cast that included Simon and Garfunkel, the Mamas and the Papas, the Who, the Byrds, Hugh Masekela, and the extraordinary Ravi Shankar. With his characteristic verite style, D. A. Pennebaker captured it all, immortalizing moments that have become legend.
